Fabricated a wing stand from an RV-10 drawing from Mouser's website (http://mouser.org/projects/rv-10/wingassembly.html). I changed a few dimensions to fit the RV-14A, including shortening the length to 8' (like Shawn did here: https://myrv14build.blogspot.com/p/wing-cradle-coming-soon.html), using a slightly different method to bolster the center posts that hold the carpet, and making those posts 18" long (instead of 16") to better hold a 20" carpet width with a 1" overlap at each end. After a few days, and a total of about 5.5hrs, this stand is (mostly) ready to hold the wings. Original drawing from Mouser:
First day, mostly complete - the stand sits on 3" swiveling and locking casters. Most attachments were 1/8" pilot-drilled and then screwed using 2.5" to 3" construction screws leftover from making the 2 EAA workbenches.
Gluing the center post for the carpet (not shown is an L bracket that was attached using 1.5" wood screws)
End view, before calling it a day:
Carpet attached to the center post with 1.5" screws, but hanging free on the side posts for now ... until I place the wing and do final adjustments before attaching the carpet. The carpet piece is longer than needed ... but all Lowe's had was 12' lengths, and for $10 I wasn't really complaining. I'll either truncate or tack down the extra length.
Another slight modification to the plans, adding two central 2"x4"x25" pieces to improve stability along the length of the 2x6s:
