Section 9 - Elevators (initial prep; ribs; foam ribs; clecoing main structures)

Gathered all of the parts necessary for this section, which will build the elevators.  It seems that building the elevators will be as involved as the three sections that preceded it combined, so I'm sure this section will take me quite a bit of time.  Below are the smaller parts; not shown are the elevator skins, trim tab skins, lead weights, elevator horns, various hardware, and trim tab motor.

Separated 12 pairs of ribs (bandsaw), deburred edges (took a while), and clecoed together 11 of 12 as called out on page 09-01:

Used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive to attach paper templates to foam blocks:

Cut out foam ribs with bandsaw, and then finished edges with a sanding block. The three smaller ribs are for the trim tab, and the 8 larger ribs are for the elevators:

Clecoed ribs, bottom skins, front and rear spars, and positioned front hinge for trim tab (left elevator shown here):

Trim-tab motor housing:

Right elevator:

You'll need one of these 90deg angle drill attachments to reach a couple spots to final-drill a few #30 holes. Cleaveland Aircraft Tool sells a nice kit that has 10 different threaded drill bits that are perfect for the RV builder:
